When In Rome

This rom-com starring Josh Duhamel (Tranformer movies) and Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) just didn’t deliver the romance. Sarah plays Beth a career driven curator, discouraged by failed past loves. Her hope for love is restored by Nick, a sports writer she meets at her sisters wedding in Rome. Beth makes the mistake however, of removing some coins from a fountain of love. The men who threw the coins in the fountain each become obsessively in love with her and tenaciously pursue her.
Romantic comedies should make you leave the theatre with a “feel good” high. Not this time. I mainly felt disappointed because I really wanted to like this movie. I should have stayed home and eaten a box of chocolates, instead.
The cast consisted of some very funny actors. Jon Heder, of Napoleon Dynamite. Danny DeVito, Dax Shepard (Baby Mama) and Torontonian Will Arnett (Arrested Development). It should have worked. I think we can blame it on a boring, ridiculous, script and no chemistry between the leads. A cameo by Ghostface Killah of the Wu-Tang Clan playing the DJ, was a pleasant surprise. I also enjoyed Kristen Schaal as the hostess of a dining in the dark restaurant, as she seated and sniffed Duhamel, so I won’t totally dismiss this movie because there were a few laughs. 6 out of 10 Says IGEM
